Hungry & Horny: A Short Guide to Budget Dating in NYC

$34,000 a year! Can I get a WHOOP WHOOP from my PR people in the house? How about the entry-level business types, who rely on their ambition and work 80 hour weeks? These people look ahead to thrive and not nearly merely survive. Regardless of what you’re earning, Uncle Sam eats away your hard earned cash, leaving you hungry and horny. Here’s your short guide to budget dating in NYC.

The question remains. How does one keep both their bank accounts and STD tests positive – I’m joking, wear a condom – and have a lot of f***’n fun while doing it? Well, this is what I do, as well as the App I’m developing to crack the code.
Let’s just lay down one ground rule, and if you disagree you don’t belong here. Dating is like poker. Play your best hand. OUR BEST HAND IS NOT MONEY, IT’S CREATIVITY. So by my definition, the best date is the craziest adventure you can take someone on.

1) Get on Living Social

You’ve heard of it before. But have you used it? Even if you are a complete square and think dates can only be dinner, drinks and a hand-job, Living Social can often save you 50% on just that. Blow past the restaurant deals and go straight to the adventures. Helicopter tours of Manhattan? Surf lesson for two at Rockaway Beach? Concerts? They are all there, for the right price.

Check out these 3 deals to get an idea of what’s good:

A) White Water Rafting – https://livingsocial.com/events/1421990-whitewater-rafting-lunch-transportation#dealWrap
B) NYC Ghost Tour – https://livingsocial.com/deals/1444258-2-to-2-5-hour-ghosts-and-murderers-walking-tour#dealWrap
C) Tickets to Comedy Club with Drinks – https://livingsocial.com/deals/1262550-two-tickets-to-a-comedy-show-drinks#dealWrap

2) TimeOut Today – FREE

You’re in New York City. There is always something happening. Surprisingly, something that is awesome is very often free. From outdoor Sci-Fi movie nights in Brooklyn Bridge Park to hoity toity gallery openings (with open bar) in Chelsea.

You can check out the free TimeOut page here: http://www.timeout.com/newyork/things-to-do/free-things-to-do-today

3) Five Dollar Feast

When I first moved to NYC I was earning peanuts and had to eat out daily. My food budget came down to $15 a day (tops) and I HATED packing meals. The math is simple, $15 and 3 meals a day gave me $5 per meal. After that it was simple. I launched the Five Dollar Feast project. I mapped out meals in Manhattan that you can get for $5 or less.
Think of it as a poor person’s Zagat. Soon there will be an app too (Android and iOS), so you can make your life just a little bit more awesome. The Five Dollar Feast app will also feature $5 desserts and $5 happy hours.

Check us out! Our instagram is awesome: @fivedollarfeast, our twitter page sucks: @fivedollarfeast, and our Facebook page is what it is. BUT OUR APP. THE APP IS EPIC.

Hope this helps. Now go have some fun, eat cheap, and get laid.
