The Top 10 Places to Take a Date in Phoenix

The key to getting a second, third, and fourth date is to always keep things fresh, fun, and interesting. It’s vital to focus on making each date feel like a special adventure, and never like a dull interview. One of our writers recently visited Phoenix and found 10 outstanding date ideas that are sure to impress.

1) The Musical Instrument Museum

Museums are excellent date ideas. In north Scottsdale of the greater Phoenix Area you’ll find The Musical Instrument Museum. You’ll find a giant gong, various drums from Africa, all kinds of guitars, and an assortment of instruments that you’ll be surprised even make noise. They even have one room where you can jam out with some of the instruments. This gives you the perfect opportunity to serenade your significant other. Oh, and be sure to check out the Conservation Lab where you can get a sneak peek at how they preserve and maintenance the instruments.

Address: 4725 E Mayo Blvd, Phoenix, AZ 85050

2) The Scottsdale Art Walk

Galleries can be a great activity for couples. Check out the Scottsdale Art Walk in Old Town on Thursday evenings. Anyone can come on out and browse. Plus, it’s a pretty relaxed environment, so maybe you can sneak in a little PDA (if you’re lucky.) If you are more of the role playing type, pretend to come from the elite who is looking to buy a piece of art for your home. Make sure to act pompous and overly critical.

When: 6:30pm – 9:30pm Every Thursday

Where: Old Town Scottsdale (check the website for streets and locations)

3) As You Wish

This is a much better alternative to coffee because 1) you both get to be creative and paint ceramics, and 2) you’re focused on painting and don’t have to worry about staring at someone while not knowing what to do with your hands for an hour. Plus, it gives you an excuse to see them again since you have to pick up the pieces you painted a few days later. (If this is your first or second date that is) As You Wish has a wide assortment of animals, plates, cups, and characters for you to paint. It’s in the Tempe Marketplace so you can grab a bite to eat after too.

Tempe: 2000 East Rio Salado Parkway

Ahwatukee: 4905 E Ray Rd #103

North Scottsdale: 21001 North Tatum Boulevard, Phoenix, AZ 85050

4) Giant Coffee

Sometimes you both just need a little caffeine fix to get things revved up. So head over to this funky coffee shop, popular with locals. Located in the heart of Downtown Phoenix, this place has an especially relaxing vibe and large bay windows, so you can get the light just right for selfies with your date. If you’re more of a tea person, you can get yourself tea service, which comes with a tea kettle, ceramic cup, a slice of lemon, and honey. You can also grab one of their famous espressos, or a scone if that’s more your speed.

Address: 1437 N 1st St, Phoenix, AZ 85004

5) Hanny’s

Absinthe is the drink to get here. It won’t make you hallucinate like it does in Europe, but it’s a unique experience to share with your date. Hanny’s is a classy joint that serves pizza, and other delicious appetizers. The best part is that the prices won’t put a hole in your wallet. Oh, and be sure to wander into the basement. There’s an odd little surprise for you down there, and remember to bring two pennies.

Address: 40 N 1st St, Phoenix, AZ 85004

6) DeSoto Central Market

This market offers an awesome assortment of restaurants. I promise you won’t be bored on this date. Whether you’re a health nut or just a meat and potatoes type of person, you’ll find it all. And check out the Special Speakeasy Night on Thursdays where patrons actually dress up in 1920s garb and do a little swing dancing. If your date is into the whole “Gatsby vibe” this could be a perfect date for a roaring good time.

Address: 915 N Central Ave Phoenix, AZ 85004

7) The Yard (aka Culinary Dropout)

Let your hair down at the yard where you can grab a delicious burger or their infamous fried chicken. After treat yourself to a beer and head out into the yard to play some ping pong or sacks. Be sure to go on the weekends where you can check out the live music from local musicians.

Address: 5632 N 7th St, Phoenix, AZ 85012

8) First Friday

On the first Friday of every month local artists and small businesses set up tents gracing Roosevelt Row. If you and your date want to support the local commerce, snag some handmade unique jewelry, or snag a great souvenir for the folks back home, then First Friday is a great idea. Make this an adventure by agreeing to buy each other something small (make a $5-10 limit) as a little token of your affection. You both get to hunt for something you think the other would enjoy or find funny. Also, be sure to hit up some of the food trucks like Short Leash, which sells hot dogs wrapped in a pita.

Location: Roosevelt Row in Downtown Phoenix Between Central and 7th Street

9) Valley Bar

This is by far the best bar in all of Phoenix. Excuse me by going into the first person, but I feel like they made this location especially for me. It’s located in a basement that you can only get to from a back alley. It’s got a speakeasy feel to it, with low lighting, and drinks named after politicians and celebrities. Play some board games, darts, pool, and skeeball. Aside from games, you can also catch a concert. Someone is performing almost every night. Try to find the secret reading room, it’s a great place to get away from the noise and have a little “private” time with your date.

Address: 130 N. Central Avenue Phoenix, AZ 85004

10) Lucky Strike

If you’re more the game type check out Lucky Strike where you can bowl, shoot some pool, or even hit the arcade room. The food and drinks are surprisingly good. When you’re feeling loose, hit the karaoke and serenade one another.

Address: 50 W Jefferson St #240, Phoenix, AZ 85003
